From the 3026 desk

Every neighborhood gets a spaceport eventually. Ours got one early.

In 2022 we landed here. The garage door had twenty windows, and with the lights on behind them it looked like the side of a ship. On Halloween 2025 somebody filed a flight plan, and the street has been a port of call ever since.

A thousand years on, the door is a listed landmark and the banner over it has outlasted three governments and a comet. Ships still come in low over the hill. The neighbors still wave, and we still wave back.

Tonight The holiday season at Gate 20 Sleighport is open, the banner stays lit, and Planet Hopper adds a star to the night sky every night until 6 January.

  1. The Spaceport season

    All October

    The Mothership went home, but the saucer stayed up for the holidays. The spaceport opens again next October.

  2. Voyager 1 reaches one light-day from Earth

    Around mid-Nov

    Not our show, though we're outside waving. Launched in 1977, still talking, now a full day away by light. Please allow 24 hours for the wave to arrive.

  3. Sleighport, Santa's Space Cargo Depot

    1 Nov to 6 Jan

    The holiday terminal opened on 1 November. The HULL/20 crew is on loan to the North Pole Logistics Hub for the season and the hangar is filling up with crates. The banner keeps its harvest look until Thanksgiving; the depot turns to Christmas the day after.

  4. Thanksgiving

    Thu, Nov 26

    Harvest on the banner until then: amber lights, falling leaves, and the crew counting down to pie. On the day the banner puts on its Thanksgiving look, and all week, 22 to 28 November, Planet Hopper has a Thankful For stamp for your passport. A thousand years on, we still argue about the stuffing.

  5. UFO Express: letters to Santa

    1 to 24 Dec, 7:00 and 8:00 pm

    From 1 December the saucer collects letters to Santa from the Gate 20 mailbox at 7:00 and 8:00 pm, every night to Christmas Eve. No stamp needed; it runs on goodwill.

  6. Christmas Eve: Sleigh 1 departs

    Thu, Dec 24

    Three pickups at Gate 20 tonight: 7:00, 8:00, and a late one at 11:00 pm that goes straight to the sleigh, with the saucer flying escort. The banner wears its Christmas look on the 24th and 25th.

  7. New Year's Eve

    Fireworks on the banner from dark, and a countdown to midnight. In the first hour of 1 January, Planet Hopper has a Midnight Launch stamp for your passport.
